COMMUNITY – PAY IT FORWARD
Community involvement was instilled in me as a child as being something you wanted to do!
The warm feeling of helping and donating your time to causes and people. From Girl Scouts, to 4-H to Big Brothers & Big Sisters my parents always got us involved in giving and it really stuck with me in my adult life.
So this week has been a busy one for my community works: I had three of them!
First there was a personal favorite of mine: BIG TRUCKS
If you have children under the age of 10 you know the fascination of children with trucks. My oldest son’s preschool has one fundraiser each year dedicated to fulfilling every child’s natural need to climb on, jump in and beep the horns of BIG TRUCKS. Here are some photo’s from last year:
This is a great event and brings me a lot of joy the day of! The kids love it and you can always see the happiness on their faces! So my projects this week for the event look like this:
This is a wonderful EVENT, I can’t say enough good things. The first year we went I had to drag my son off the trucks kicking and screaming but he is SO excited to go! My second community benefit work this week: Bijou’s P.A.R.K.S. fundraiser (for a new playground)
This was a great community event called the Cut-A-Thon, I donated some fabulous cupcakes for their bake sale (do you know how hard it was not to eat all of these?) Creativity isn’t just about design and crafts I also can be pretty handy in the kitchen! The recipe for these can be found here.

And last but not least I will be donating some time to an event that comes once a year to our great little town: THE SKINNYMAN
Tomorrow morning at 6am with a group of great folks I will donate my time to help those who have decided to try the ESCAPE from the JUDGE!
Here is the description of this event: The first 100 registrants will experience the unique opportunity to board Mid-Lakes Navigation’s Judge Ben Wiles, be transported to County Club Point (1 mile from the village ramp) and offered the chance to “Escape from the Judge.” Swimmers will swim to shore following a marked and patrolled course, down the western side of the lake to the seawall ramp near the Village pier with a short land sprint across Clift Park to the finish line near the Village Gazebo.
Yes you read that correctly they are going to jump out of a boat and swim to shore! I’m not sure yet what I will be doing as this event is tomorrow but I’m excited to be able to help those who attempt to swim a mile at 6 O’clock in the morning!
I’m hoping that by donating a little of my time and talents, I am making the community I live in a better place for everyone! I encourage everyone to find sometime even an hour a month to their community.
